Laura's Visit to Abugida

Hello everybody!! I’m Laura, one of the volunteers from the April group and I want to tell you all that this has been one of the best experiences of my life.

To begin with, whilst you are planning the trip, you form your own expectations but then it turns out to be very different, once you really live the experience and see it for yourself it’s such a profound thing. I mean it really touches your heart and I think that anybody who is privileged enough to live in our society or in a developed country should experience a journey like this, so that they realise that we have everything and I mean absolutely EVERYTHING. After you have experienced this you are so grateful for your life, your family and friends, your surroundings and most importantly, something we take for granted, to be able have something to eat whenever you feel like it to get rid of those hunger pangs. It may be difficult to picture it so just imagine what it actually feels like….

I want to encourage you to help in any way you can, all the money you give gets there and thanks to this money lots of children can eat and have an education that their parents could never have imagined and a better future lies ahead for these children. I don’t want to hear the same old excuse as to “whether my money actually gets there or not” because I can assure you that this will be the best money you have ever spent in your life.

And if you are fortunate enough to travel over there and give them a helping hand you will be the luckiest person on earth because words can’t express what you get from being with these people. Best wishes and please be happy with this life.

I would also like to thank all the Mediterranea team for having the guts to fight for these children and what you have achieved is so difficult, please keep up the good work and I’m sure that we will get more and more members. Well done.

PS: the April group has such fond memories of Abugida and in the photo you can see them painting the kitchen.  Many thanks, Laura, Mayte, Teresa and Nacho.
