Facebook

We just crept in to Facebook. We can be found at "mediterraneaong". We hava also started a "secret" group for all those who want to work in 4th world Mallorca. We are just starting out so we have a lot to learn about how this works, and we are not 100% sure if it will be of use to us yet.
Any of you know much about it ?

4th World.

Yesterday we held our first fourth world meeting. It was agree that teams should be formed to take responsibility for the various tasks we can carry out to help better the quality of life of those in need in our island.
We will be organizing meetings with other NGOs who work in the sector to see how best we can collaborate with them and share knowledge.
We agreed to expand the collaboration we have with Can Gaza and related centers (hospices for vagabonds and destitute males).
Those interested in helping here on the home front please get in touch calling 971 676334 or emailing ong@groc.info

Speed counts

The longer we take to carry out a project the more time those suffering and in need stay in their situation.

Marta & Mykias got away safely on Thursday

Dear All,

Just a short message to say (as many of you probably already know) that Marta & Mykias got away safely on Thursday as planned.  After a very emotional few days filled with good-byes and many hugs and tears it was wonderful to see them off onto the next leg of their journey with big smiles and some happiness and relief to be finally going home in among the tears.

Thank you so much to everyone, and congratulations to you all on what was achieved here over these past two months - it could not have been such a success without all of you.  Thankfully, a little girl has gone home to have a normal life, and a whole bunch of Ethiopian families will have friends for life in Mallorca and perhaps had their perception of the west (and westerners) changed a little, and possibly a lot (hopefully for the better!).

As I have said before, heartfelt thanks also due to all of our families who backed us up and supported us, helped us, and understood when we were not around to handle the day-to-day family tasks and dramas. Thank you - we could not have done it without your understanding.

Hope to see you all sometime or other,

Very best regards
Linda Spratt

4th World

The First World's financial crisis has increased the size of the fourth world, and over the next two years we will probably see things getting harder for the people that have had the misfortune to slip in to this slot in our society. Lately members of Mediterranea Mallorca have manifested their desire to start working to help this sector. As most members know we have always been doing things in the 4th World but the time has probably come to start taking a more active and on going role.

Possible steps to be taken:

1)Put together a team of volunteers. Organise the team.
2)Identify problems we could act upon.
3)Hold meetings with other NGO's that work in this sector to learn from them and evaluate if we can cooperate with them.
4)Locate a place that could act as warehouse (sorting, storing etc)
5)Promote awareness and recruit helpers/members
6)Potential projects
  • a)Providing food to dining rooms and refuges
  • c)Stockpiling toys for the Xmas season
  • d)Linking up restaurants and dining halls so that left over food can be distributed to those in need.
  • e)Locating vulnerable communities (illegal immigrants, ethic subgroups, etc), investigating ways in which we can help them.
If you would like to help in this sector please get in touch with us on Tel: 971676334 or email-:>ong@groc.info
